“INVENTORY” Soundtrack - 2024

“INVENTORY” is a short film by Sophia Davis for which I composed the soundtrack. This was a quick project consisting of 2 songs and one main motif. After speaking with Sophia in depth on the emotional core of the project, I could get to writing.

I used a repetitive soft piano to establish emotional cohesion through the intro montage, as seemingly unrelated scenes play in quick succession.

Guitar is used as a contrast from the earlier montage to now signify how this new relationship is different from the earlier ones. The sparse guitar is sweet and peaceful paired with a heartfelt visual between two characters, which is then recontextualized when one dies to help the audience to experience the same grief as the main character.

Finally the intro piano motif is brought back, to give familiarity and reflect on all the main character has been through as we see the credits roll.

Band production - 2023

I worked with the Boulder based band, Diva Cup. I produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered their first release, “Public Venmo Porngirls - Demo”
Out now on all streaming platforms.

This was my first time producing for a full band with vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Firstly, I asked for a list of reference tracks to see what their inspirations are and understand their sound production desires. I analyzed each inspo song with in-depth production notes. One inspo track was Bodysnatchers by Radiohead, which there is a live set of. I closely examined the video to see what techniques and mics were being used for recording the drums, guitars, and vocals. After reverse-image-searching the mics, I compiled a list of all I’d learned to utilize during the recording process. We even got to use the same mic as Thom Yorke for Polly’s lead vocals.

It was fun and challenging to balance my own musical ear and what was desired from the band. I did 47 renditions in total, mostly mixing for car speakers and airpods, as I knew those were the two primary listening locations of their audience. I’m happy with my work, but I know that I’m capable of better after this experience. Looking forward to the next one.

Monochromaticity EP - 2020-2022

Monochromaticity is a collection of my favorite musical creations over a two year span. Over quarantine, I had a plethora of time and was able to deep dive into Ableton. I finally started to sing and could make some songs that felt “real”.

Driving late at night in Boulder, I saw a man walking in the middle of the street. The car next to me honked at him and moved into my lane to avoid him. He persisted in walking in the right lane as cars flew by. On my way home, passing the spot I saw him, a firetruck, ambulance, and three cop cars were flashing.

I never learned what happened to him but that moment shook the fragility of life into my core. I had always been scared to put any of my creations out there, but I knew I’d regret it if the people I cared about never got to hear my passion projects. The next morning I released the two years of music I had been sitting on.
